文摘

We investigated the protective effect of 3886 French Alpine forests against rockfalls.

The length of forested slope is a predominant variable for rockfalls assessment.

Half of the French Alpine forests are very effective in reducing rockfall hazard.

Mix tree species and promote shade-tolerant species is positive for the protection.

High biodiversity and structural heterogeneity in forests improve rockfall protection.
