Tm3+-doped ZrO2 nanotube arrays were prepared by anodization of a Zr-Tm alloy.

Crystal structure had remarkable effects on the photoluminescence properties.

The monoclinic phase was conductive to the emission at 454 nm.

The tetragonal phase was conductive to the emission at 460 nm.
