Structural diversity in Cu(II) and Cd(II) coordination complexes with 4-amino-1,2,4-triazole ligand

The syntheses and structures of the series of metal complexes, namely [CuCl2(L)2路H2O)]n (rong class="boldFont">Lrong> = 4-amino-1,2,4-triazole), rong class="boldFont">1rong>; {[Cu(L)4][ClO4]2.H2O}n, rong class="boldFont">2rong>; and [Cd2Cl4(L)2.2H2O]n, rong class="boldFont">3rong> are reported. These were prepared by the self-assembly of Cu(II) and Cd(II) salts with rong class="boldFont">Lrong> in MeOH/H2O system. All these complexes have been characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectrum, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. Complexes rong class="boldFont">1rong>-rong class="boldFont">2rong> show 1-D polymeric infinite chains, while complex 3 shows 2D pleated net. The anions Cl鈭?/sup> in complexes rong class="boldFont">1rong> and rong class="boldFont">3rong> act as bridging or terminal ligands to the metal atoms while the ClO4鈭?/sup> anions in rong class="boldFont">2rong> are not coordinated to the metal centers.
