3 stage rounding of inlet blade area in 4 PATs analyzed. Rounding carried out on blade, inner and outer shrouds respectively. Theo. model/expt data used to visualize fluid mechanics in flow/non-flow zones. 1–2.5% rise in η, mainly due to loss reduction than rotational momentum. Backward vane optimization in PATs, CFD and pump rounding studies recommended.
