A new suite of carbonaceous microstructures from the stratiform Apex chert have been described.
NanoSIMS, laser Raman and confocal laser scanning microscopy were used to characterise the carbon.
Primary non isopachous wrinkled laminations, roll-ups and grain trapping were identified.
Data are consistent with the presence of microbially induced sedimentary microstructures in the stratiform Apex chert.
