Arenicin-1 and its Ar-1[V8R] analog exhibit strong antibacterial activities. Ar-1[V8R] displays significantly reduced cytotoxicity against mammalian cells. Both peptides have similar spatial structure in water. Ar-1[V8R] has significantly lower dimerization propensity in DPC micelles. Dimerization plays a key role in cytotoxicity but not in antibacterial activity.
