Adsorptive removal of fluoride from drinking water using porous starch loaded with common metal ions

Four novel and inexpensive biosorbents were developed for defluoridation of water. Common metal ions (Zr, Al, Fe and La) were loaded onto porous starch (PS). Biosorbents retained metal ions during defluoridation. PS-Zr showed superior adsorption capacity over a pH range of 3.0–9.0. PS-Zr maximum adsorption capacity was 25.41 mg fluoride/g biosorbent.
