PE and PG lipids extracted from E. coli form stable bilayers on mica and gold. Mechanism of lipid vesicles spreading is substantially different on each substrate. Nature of the substrate strongly affects the morphology of resulting membrane. Molecular organization of the bilayers influences their nanomechanical properties.
