The present study reports a novel and simple method for synthesis of fluorescent silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) by using natural edible gum extract obtained from Acacia nilotica plant. This gum extract is act as both stabilizing and reducing agent. The synthesized fluorescent NPs were characterized by UV-Visible spectroscopy, Transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and spectrofluorometry. The obtained AgNPs were in phase pure and well crystalline with face centered cubic structure. The size and morphology of synthesized AgNPs were characterized by TEM. Reduction of 4-nitrophenol (4-NP) by NaBH4 catalyzed using AgNPs also studied by means of UV–Vis spectroscopy. It was observed that the catalytic reaction obeys first-order kinetics, depending on the concentration of 4-NP with higher efficiency.
