Methylsalicylate (MeSA) at 2 concentrations were applied as postharvest treatments in sweet cherry.

MeSA maintained fruit quality attributes (firmness, colour and acidity) during storage.

Bioactive compounds and antioxidant activity were higher in MeSA treated cherries.

Shelf life was increased in MeSA-treated cherries by 10 days with respect to controls.
