Hydrogenation of sugars to sugar alcohols is an important step in the production of value-added chemicals and food ingredients.
Sugar hydrogenation is strongly retarded by internal diffusion in conventional catalysts.
Experiments with structured catalysts demonstrated that the use of them is a way to intensify the hydrogenation process.
