A sampler based on stir bar sorptive extraction was calibrated using passive dosing.

Stir bar coating/water partition coefficients were established for a range of POPs.

An isotropic exchange kinetics of POPs between samplers and water was confirmed.

Water boundary layer controlled the uptake of compounds with log Kpw >3.5.

PRCs can be applied for in situ calibration of compound uptake to stir bars.
