P53R2 binds to thioredoxin reductase 2 (TrxR2) in vivo and in vitro. P53R2 enhances TrxR activity. P53R2 regulates TrxR activity in a p53-independent manner. P53R2 acts as a positive regulator of TrxR2 activity under both normal and DNA damage conditions.
