Kurdistan mid Tertiary marine lithic arenites record latest deposition in Neotethys. The clastic rocks were mainly derived from sub-alkaline basalt/basaltic andesite. Chemically the clastic rocks exhibit back-arc and island arc tectonic settings. Walash-Naopurdan rocks were emplaced during the closure and obduction of Neotethys.
