Determination of tumor cell origin is significant for staging and management of RCC in renal allografts.

Genetic analysis, such as microsatellite analysis, should be use on a routine basis to determine the origin of RCC in the kidney allograft.

Microsatellite analysis of the polymorphic Penta C and Penta D alleles is a convenient, robust, and efficient strategy to determine donor versus recipient origin of RCC in allograft kidney specimens.

Confirmed donor derived malignancy should be reported to the live organ donor or allograft recipients, as surveillance for malignancy may be warranted.
