A three-phased door-to door survey was conducted to identify stroke survivors. Age-adjusted prevalence of 14.6/1000 persons was found, which is 7-fold the rates in Nigeria. The finding has huge socioeconomic and wider health implication in a rural community. Improved surveillance and management of HBP may reduce the burgeoning stroke burden.
