We investigated the role of abiotic factors in the settlement of Posidonia oceanica on rocks.
We performed geomechanic and petrographic analyses and scuba diving surveys.
A predictive model to individuate the theoretical depth of the meadow upper limits was applied.
P. oceanica occurs only on the strongest lithotypes whilst weak rocks remains unvegetated.
The predictive model is less applicable on rocks due to plant resistance to hydrodynamic forces.
