Imbibition of alkanes into mesoporous Vycor is observed by novel neutron imaging.
Both, the imbibition front's height and broadening, obey a square-root-of-time dynamics.
Also the front's shape is quantitatively followed with sufficient resolution.
Based on these kinetic data, pore size distributions can be determined.
And details of pore-wall adsorbed layers, here water covered by alkanes, inferred.
