Natural and physical scientists mostly adhere to a different ‘geography of knowledge’ than many social scientists. An analysis of three major global environmental assessments was undertaken (IPCC, MA, IPBES). The level of integration of Indigenous and Local Knowledge (ILK) varied. Interdisciplinary epistemological differences may hinder knowledge integration in scientific assessments. Institutional mechanisms and further research need to more overtly address these differences.
