Ensiling is a potential alternative for long-term sugar storage in beet tissue.

Sugars:solids had no significant effect on sugar retention in ensiled tissue.

Some combinations of pH and MC enabled sugar retentions of ≥90% in ensiled tissue.

Highly acidic pH (≤3.0) caused net sugar gains in tissue ensiled for at least 3 d.

Effective acid quantities (on dry sugar) could cost between 4.9 and 18.6 $ Mg−1.
