The current range of Scottish salmon feeds is adapted to a differentiated supply of salmon products For best practice, feed ingredients need to be responsibly sourced in compliance with third party standard The main strategic concern is future availability of omega-3 LC-PUFA to maintain the healthy image of Scottish salmon Current avoidance of land animal & GM feed ingredients has implications for cost and sustainable, flexible formulations Continuing research is required to enable greater reliance on locally-grown instead of imported plant ingredients.
