Aqueous Mixture of Vesicular/Cysteine/Iron Mediates Oxidative pH-Switchable Multifunctional Catalysis.

Designed and encapsulated in vesicular system (1:4 SDS/DTAB) in order to imitate a chloroperoxidase (CLP).

This artificial catalyst behaved at pH 3 both as catalase and CLP, at pH 1 as peroxidase.

Engineered two distinct vesicular cysteinate-Fe3+ binary complexes that function as a pH-switchable artificial-enzyme.

Sulfur and ammonium moieties of Cys bind to metal-ion at pH 1 but that the ammonium-side chain is replaced by the carboxylate-group at pH 3.
