Root canal sealers exhibit cytotoxicity to varying degrees. Pachymic acid significantly reduces sealer-induced cytotoxicity. Methacrylate resin–based sealer is severely cytotoxic in an uncured state. Calcium hydroxide–based sealers are highly biocompatible.
