A 95-m long, gas hydrate-bearing sediment drill core was investigated.

Paired occurrences of carbonates and pronounced Mo enrichments in bulk sediments

Mo enrichment is favored by high methane flux in the uppermost sediments.

Intense episodes of methane seepage are likely triggered by hydrate dissociation.

Mo geochemistry can be used to constrain the intensities of past methane seepages.
