A coupled geomechanics and fluid flow model is presented for induced seismicity prediction in oil and gas injection and waste disposal operations.
The model can also be used in design and execution of Enhanced Geothermal Energy (EGS) applications.
Examples were provided from an Eagle Ford Shale well with 14 stage hydraulic fracturing.
Induced seismicity event magnitudes were predicted using various scenarios in the coupled model introduced for optimizing injection parameters in waste disposal operations.
Further research is ongoing for safer operations and providing better guidance to regulatory agencies and operators.
