Shallow seismics has a long tradition in East Germany. Technological progress like the use of surface sources, modern digital seismographs and high-tech PC software accompanied by research and development activities make it possible to solve a lot of different tasks with high resolution shallow seismics. In particular it enables assessments to be carried out with regard to planning and protection of transportation systems, including hydrogeological site surveys.
