Systematic search of Europe and N. Atlantic for midmantle seismic observations. Mid-mantle P to S converted phases dominantly come from 1000 km depth beneath W. Europe. Diverted Icelandic plume material coincident with mid-mantle seismic arrivals. Mid-mantle signals could relate to phase changes in plume or plume entrained material.
