ZnO-rGO nanocomposite thin films by gamma radiation for E. coli sensor were fabricated for the first time.

Exposed to gamma radiation leads to the change the microstructure of the films.

The optical behaviors of thin films were found to be gamma dose dependent.

The sensors had a linear response with GO concentration.

The sensors exhibited enhanced sensitivity at higher gamma radiation.
