PVA sol-gel route was used for the synthesis of MgFe2O4. Mg/Fe molar ratio affects the formation of MgFe2O4. The single-phase MgFe2O4 was prepared successfully at 500 °C. MgFe2O4 nanocrystallites display soft magnetic behavior.
