High profile ship incidents have raised public and political concerns over safety. Research suggests that the frequency of accidents has increased in the last decade. Experimental measurements are made of the influence of flooding on ship responses. Comparison is made to current ship classification design rules. Future work will investigate local loading effects and transient flooding effects.
