Tropical wrens rely more on acoustic signals than visual signals for inter- and intraspecific discrimination

We studied acoustic and visual signals of species discrimination in two wren species.

We presented hetero- and conspecific song playback and visual models to birds.

We investigated responses of both males and females to song and model presentation.

We found that wrens rely heavily on acoustic signals and little on visual signals.

We report asymmetrical aggression consistent with interspecific dominance.
