The effect of a shelf-furnished screen on behaviour and space utilisation of indoor group-housed cats was examined.
Screen presence reduces agonistic behaviour in some situations but has no effect on pre-feed aggression.
Space utilisation increases with screen presence.
Screen removal resulted in an increase of aggression above baseline levels.
Exploiting the unused vertical space with stand-alone shelving should be considered a valuable resource for the cat.
