Alkali metal ions co-doped MgO:Er nanopowders were synthesized by SCS. Lattice parameter decreases with the increasing ionic radius. Addition of Er into MgO causes defects in grain boundaries. Optical properties proves Er+Li, Na and K as dopants into the MgO.
