Sleep spindles were examined during slow oscillations (SOs) using human MEG/EEG.

Fast and slow spindles showed diverging topography and phase-locking to the SO.

Lateralized amplitude or slope of SOs did not lateralize spindle activity.

Data are inconsistent with SOs coordinating local spindle-mediated memory processes.
