Genes CYP74M1 and CYP74M3 of Selaginella moellendorffii were expressed in E. coli.

Recombinant CYP74M1 and CYP74M3 exhibit the 13-divinyl ether synthase activity.

CYP74M1 synthesizes (11Z)-etheroleic or (11Z)-etherolenic acids.

CYP74M3 synthesizes mainly etheroleic or etherolenic acids.

CYP74M1 and CYP74M3 are the first DESs detected in non-flowering plants.
