Novel AlNbTiVZr0.5 high entropy alloy was prepared by vacuum arc melting.

The alloy is composed of bcc matrix and Laves and Zr2Al-type second phase particles.

The density of the AlNbTiVZr0.5 alloy is 5.64 g cm3.

The alloy has high strength and compression ductility of 50% at room temperature.

The AlNbTiVZr0.5 alloy preserves high specific strength at temperatures of ≤800 °C.
