The stability of La2NiO4 + δ (LNO) is examined in LNO-doped ceria composites. XRD patterns show that LNO decomposes in the composites upon calcination at 1300 °C. The decomposition product, namely La2O3, dissolves in the ceria phase. Coefficients of thermal expansion confirm the decomposition of the LNO phase. Low LNO volume fractions in these composites are not suitable for SOFCs.
