The feedback material involved exceptionally large quantities of metadiscourse. The metadiscourse in feedback is not the prototypical discourse-organising type. The metadiscourse in the teacher feedback is problem/solution-oriented. Previously studied data has unduly influenced our conceptualisations of metadiscourse. The roles of the writer, audience and text are multidimensional and complex.
