The paper deals with smart sequential multilateration measurement strategy for volumetric error compensation of a small machine tool.

A Design of Experiment (Screening) is carried out to detect the most influential experimental parameters.

The set of influential experimental factors is retained to obtain the Response Surface with its Statistical Confidence Boundaries.

Advices are provided to the smart use of tracking interferometers in sequential multilateration.
