Invasive treatment as catheterization and hemodialysis are frequently needed in STEC-HUS. Bleeding complications have resulted in at least 6 deaths in the outbreak 2011. Chemistry values indicate an inflammatory response to platelet transfusion. Platelet transfusion does not affect hard outcome parameters as seizures, thrombotic events, and the requirement for renal replacement or ventilation. Bleeding complications or invasive procedures advise strong consideration of platelet transfusion in STEC-HUS.
