The membrane from isolated sugar beet vacuoles was a valuable alternative to artificial membranes for investigating Syringopeptin 25A pore forming activity.

The human channel TPC1 and the chloride/proton antiporter CLC-7 from endomembranes were functionally characterized using Arabidopsis tonoplast as a model membrane.

We propose the plant vacuole as a novel system to study the molecular mechanisms of exogenous transporters and channels.
