Three common texture types (pebbled, puffy, plume-like) are observed in MOC images. Puffy dust storms are concentrated in the low latitudes. Plume-like dust storms are concentrated in the northern mid/high latitudes. Pebbled dust storms are concentrated in the southern mid/high latitudes. The 2001 global dust storm showed a progression from a combination of all texture types to mostly plume-like structures.
