LiV<sub>3sub>O<sub>8sub> is coated on the Li[Li<sub>0.17sub>Ni<sub>0.17sub>Co<sub>0.10sub>Mn<sub>0.56sub>]O<sub>2sub> cathode successfully.

LiV<sub>3sub>O<sub>8sub>-coated cathodes are prepared by a chemical deposition method.

Capacity retention of the LiV<sub>3sub>O<sub>8sub>-coated cathode has been improved.

Cyclic performance of the LiV<sub>3sub>O<sub>8sub>-coated cathode has been increased.

Rate capability of the LiV<sub>3sub>O<sub>8sub>-coated cathode has been enhanced.
