An imidazolium-based dicarboxylate, derived from l-valine, was used as chiral inductor.

This inductor was effective in the Mo-catalyzed asymmetric sulfoxidation.

Good yields of chiral sulfoxide were obtained by kinetic resolution.

Better reaction times were observed than in other related Mo-complexes.
