Use of NIRS technology for on-vine measurement of nitrate content and other internal quality parameters in intact summer squash for baby food production

NIRS was used for measuring on-vine internal quality attributes of summer squash. Good predictions of nitrate content were obtained. NIRS for deciding on summer squash use in baby food based on nitrate content. Suitable wavelengths for nitrate content determination were identified. The MEMS-NIR spectrophotometer is a promising tool in on-vine summer squash sorting.
