An operating strategy was developed for biodiesel low-temperature combustion (B-LTC).
B-LTC was evaluated under WHTC and NRTC modes.
The fuel economy of B-LTC was comparable to that of conventional diesel engines.
B-LTC achieved cycle specific soot of 0.01 g/kWh in both modes.
B-LTC reduced the engine-out NOx to 0.99 g/kWh in NRTC mode.
