Surface oil slick breakup and oil droplet kinetics under surface breaking waves. A phenomenological population dynamic model to calculate oil droplet size distribution (DSD) in surface oil slick subjected to breaking waves. Model calculates oil entrainment, intrusion depth of oil droplets, and oil droplet rise in the water column while they undergo breakup and coalescence. Oil droplet evolution in the water column is modeled based on breakup and coalescence concepts. Model comparisons with experimental data for different oil types, oils with different water content, differently weathered oils, and different breaking wave heights.
