A cleaner production approach towards sustainable environment management. Waste paper successfully converted into cyanoethyl cellulose (CEC). CEC with maximum degree of substitution 2.70 achieved under optimum conditions. Degree of polymerization, crystallinity and solubility of CEC samples was studied. Characterization of CEC was done by FT-IR, 1H NMR, XRD and SEM techniques.
