OBJECTIVE: Because of the potentially devastating health consequences of STDs, and especially recurrent STDs, it is important to identify predictors of these diseases among adolescents who engage in high risk behaviors. It was hypothesized that risky sexual behavior (i.e. multiple sexual partners and failure to use condoms) and behavior/emotional problems (i.e. alcohol and drug use, conduct problems, and depression) would predict STDs and recurrent STDs.
