OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to compare the sensitivities of the InPouch TV culture to wet mount, Diamond's media culture and Papanicolaou (Pap) smear in the diagnosis of Trichomonas infection in sexually active adolescents. InPouch TV is a self-contained system which is reported to be equally sensitive, yet less expensive and labor intensive than traditional Diamond's media for the culturing of Trichomonas vaginalis. Its use in an adolescent population has not previously been studied.
